agree, strongly. society has shaped us in a way that makes us who we are. as much as people try to defy that, they are still generally exactly what people expect.
Ooh, I disagree. I work really hard to NOT be what anyone expects...the norm. No way! I hate expectations anyway! They are planned disappointments. You have FAR exeeded anything I would have ever expected in a child! I know you FAR exeed what people want in a small group leader! And you and I both exeed what people expect in a relationship or friendship. No way...if anything, I keep people wondering. They never know what to expect from me... and I hope to always blow them away.
wow...look at all those responses. I would have to disagree with the statment to a certain degree. It depends on the person, I agree with your mom, I work really hard not to be what anyone expects at this point in my life. But I can't say that I've always lived life that way.
i think that it is, as a person, what you choose to be. like your mommy said, if you try to be yourself you can surpass the expectations of society. but if you are trying to conform and be like those of the world that statement will define you.
i'm whoever my parents have raised me, i try to be who God wants me to be, i act alot like the friends i hang out with, and react to things like my family
but alot of the time, i surprise myself
i dont care what people say, i'm still surprised when i see orange appear from yellow and red
and i bet that first dude was surprised
so i'm just sayin, yea people might know how i'd react to some things, but not all things
only if who we are is defined by how we act. then, i agree. but if who we are is everything about us including how we act, i entirely disagree. i think people act how they are expected to act, but often how they act/how they are expected to act is entirely different than who they really are.

I have to disagree, I am who I am, I would hope my kids are who they are and ONLY are who they are because of what GOD expects of them NOT SOCIETY!
i agree that that happens, but i think we should strive to be more than people expect.
We are all apt to believe what the world believes about us.

On my google homepage today...I think it depends on the person. It depends on that person's willingness to conform to society...good question though!
