That's a Great Story Grandpa

When someone begins to tell you a story that they've told you before, do you stop them or let them continue on? Is your response dependant on the teller? If you love someone (like you are old and have been married to them for 80 years) will you always re-listen?

If you stop them, how do you phrase that? "I know, you've told me" or "Yeah, I've heard this before"?

If you let them continue...how many times will you listen to this story before you begin to stop them?

I am a re-teller. I know I am. But I'm also a re-listener...

Seriously, do you stop the story-teller or let them continue?

Listen up favorite grand daughter...
If you're talking about THIS grandpa I am taking you out of my will today!
If you're talking about your OTHER grandpa tell him to shut the hell up when he starts telling stories...he drives me nuts too...
ha ha?

Re-teller and re-listener here! BUT, if my mother in law tells me the story about her daughter drinking grape juice and having green poop ONE MORE TIME, I may just shoot myself! I've been told that I repeat myself when I first wake up but I really don't believe it...I don't snore either...ha ha!

If it's me...you can stop me. I talk to too many people and forget who I tell things to.
I always say to people, "Yeah, you told me that...it's great"
even if I don't mean it.
But, really--tell me.

I love retelling old yarns. Each time you can prefect the timing of the dramatic pauses and punch lines. Or you can add the proverbial embellishes until the story is classis material.
Unfortunately I tend to blank out when others are doing the retelling.
I mean honestly who wants to hear a story retold again and again?

I had a professor in college who began stories with "if you've heard this one already, just hold up the number of fingers for the number of times you've heard it if it makes you feel better. But I'm going to tell it anyway, because I like it." And when you talk as much as I do, you can't help re-telling once in a while.

My dad is the king of retelling stories. They are all fictionally numbered and I've heard them all a million times. Of course, I'm forced to sit through them again.

I guess I'm starting to unfortunately follow after him, even though I don't mean to be a reteller.
