PDYM Day 1

Tonight was the first night of our PDYM (Purpose Driven Youth Ministry) Conference. Needless to say, we've been details-minded for the last few days...

I have been trying, since I came back from Kenya, to be intentional about not letting people fall behind to-do lists in my head, so I made sure to be in the general session for the kick-off of the conference.

We started with a video from a student, Jimmy...please watch it HERE. So I was already beaming from the idea of these students being oh, so creative.

And then, a full student band begins to play "Viva La Vida" (which I called "La Vida Loca" about six times tonight and had to pause to sing in my head just now so I could title it correctly) lead by a 7th grade boy, Parker. (In the middle, the choir walked down the aisle--in the dark--and was on stage in time to sing the "oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, ohh...")

It was so fun to be in an auditorium full of youth workers getting such joy from our students.
Taffy and his team did an incredible, incredible job prepping these students to play, sing, and dance to this song.

I was so glad to be on the other side of all of the task lists (though, you know I love them). To be reminded of the heart behind the work and truly relish in God's power to grab the hearts of students.

I love students. And I love youth workers for loving students!
As we sang "In our world, be lifted high", I was thinking about God's love, mercy, and grace saturating our day-to-day world of students.

What an incredible world to be a part of.

Yeah, the students were amazing! Seeing them lead worship (and just worshipping) is a huge testament to the leaders @ Saddleback.

I was very impressed with the young man who led worship, I've seen "professional" worship pastors that could learn from him.

I am so constantly amazed at the talents of young people. So amazed.
