I stopped at the bookstore on my way home from work...I needed to pick up a gift for a friend.
I was too proud to search for the author, so I decided to wander up and down the aisles of the kids section hoping to spot the title on the binding.
I listened as kids spoke with each other:
"Should I get James and the Giant Peach or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?"
"Look at how cool this one is"
And as they spoke to their parents:
"Mom! Can I get two books? I'll pay for this one with my allowance."
"Look! Cool! This is the one I wanted"
And as one little girl (who was maybe seven) helped another mom find a book for her daughter:
"If she's in the highest reading group in her class, you should buy her this book...but if she's not, she might want this...Do they have reading groups in her class?"
I wanted to stay and listen, but I had already stood there for 15 minutes and thought I would look creepy staying longer. But I did discover that I will need to develop some severe strength before becoming a parent because if my kid wants to read, I will buy as many books as he wants.

Remember reading books in my bed every night? You and Zac would bring in four or five books and we would lay together and read and read even when you were 2 and 3 years old...
Not many people know that YOU, dear Allison Hibbard, were in TOP reading group in preschool at age four. You were reading James and the Giant Peach and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in 2nd grade...I think by 4th grade you were reading one "Babysitter's Club" book EACH DAY! So glad you still have this passion!!
If your kids ever want more books to read, have them call Grandma Juju...it will be a JOY to read with them!!
This title is so fitting!
And as for "We're all in this Together", we have to get together once the holidays are over :)
Good one Allison...you'll have the strength when it's your kid or a grandkid...
Grandma Juju???
