The Names of My Children

Every girl can tell you what she wants to name her kids.
The names change every few years, but, there is a constant list... it's there in her brain next to "current bridesmaids", "first dance song" and "Grammy acceptance speech" (oh, is that just me?)

I was just thinking about all of the names I have had picked out over the years (in no particular order), and the reasons why...

* Nacobi and Shinook (after two cartoon bears in a Christmas TV movie)
* Claudia (after the artsy girl from the Baby-Sitters Club)
* Chandler (for a girl...and, for the record, I wanted my daughter to be named Chandler before they named Frank's daughter Chandler)
* James (so I could sing him "Sweet Baby James")
* Jacob, Kaleb and Lucas (three boys, J,K,L--I don't know why)
* Stella
* Holden (after "Catcher in the Rye", not because I love the book, but because I love the name)
* Atticus (because I do love "To Kill a Mockingbird")
* Blue (because I also love "Special Topics in Calamity Physics")
* Cameron Jane (we would call her C.J.)
* Middle Name: Hilorie (pronounced Hilary, but spelled HIL for Hilary J and ORIE for Torie Tasha--two of the greatest students I've ever known)
* Jackson Solomon (such a strong name)
* Jillian (so I could have Jack and Jill)
* Samuel and Gabriella (so I could call for Sam and Ella--say it quickly, it sounds like salmonella)

Oh, my brother once mentioned (when he was young--and really in to Zelda) that he wanted to name his son Aquamentis. He would get really upset when I threatened to nickname him "Ocky" (written phonetically)

Interesting that you would post this tonight. I just made a vow never to discuss my future children's names after being ridiculed profusely for one- however, I still stand by it.
Miss you.

You are sooo funny. You wanted me to call you Claudia for a while. You loved that name. Auquamentis! Yes, I remember that but like Maybeline Momma had not heard it in 10 years!
Thanks for a good laugh this morning!

all good names...(almost)but it's your choice ...
Cathi's comment reminds me of when we were expecting Sarah, our 5th child, and we were selecting possible names for her or him...
the four sisters would say:"you can't name it 'that' name because that's the name of so and so's dog or one of their friends brother or sister who they didn't like"...or an old boyfriend or a character on a TV show they didn't like...was very difficult coming up with names everyone liked...
it worked out very well...Sarah's has always liked her name but not her middle name...
you can't win'em all...

p.s. we also picked names for all the girls that would be simple to spell because we knew they'd be spelling our last name to everyone
at least 20 times a day...

The Samuel and Gabriella names were my favorite!

The things that I wonder is where did you come up with all of these?

Alli,

I am just wondering why you removed my blog from your blogroll??? Did I do something wrong? Did I offend you? Were you upset that I tagged you??

The only reason it hasn't been updated in about 3 days (but that's not that long) is because I have been gone. :(

What can I do to get back on your good side???

i was in LOVE with the baby-sitters club. i aspired to name my girls Mary Anne, Claudia, Kristy, Stacey, and Dawn. But never Mallory or Jessie.

I LOVED the Baby-Sitter's Club! I had every book and I would go to the store as soon as the next one came out. Then my mom made me sell them at a grage sale for 25 cents. I was so sad even though I had already read them.
