America, Sweet America

It's the Fourth of July...as a kid, I remember loving the Fourth of July.

My family would always wake up early and go down to Main Beach Laguna. The fireworks started at sunset, but we would arrive at 10am to secure our spot. (Note: This may have only been one or two Fourths, but it is my main fireworks memory)

My brother and I would swim all day, except for the hour or so that we would walk, with my dad, to the El Pollo Loco that used to be across the street...we would make small tacos out of the family meal of chicken and corn tortillas (who feeds children corn tortillas?: my dad, the healthy eater).

Then, back to swimming.

I had no concept of time back then--I only remember waiting until it was dark...

The fireworks were amazing. Tons of them...HUGE fireworks of all shapes and sizes...beautiful and loud...

When it was over, we would hike back to the car--wet, heavy towels...sand-filled bathing suits...dry, itchy eyes...we'd fall asleep in the car on the way home...

As a kid, you knew Fourth of July was sacred; there were no chores on the Fourth. No room cleaning or vacuuming...it was just straight fun.

I'm in for straight fun today too...no room cleaning, no car washing, just hanging out...and hopefully so much swimming that I fall asleep in the car on the way home!

Memories are so sweet...
those were the good ol' days for sure...I think I even wore a bathing suit back then.
Hope the 4th is even more memorable today...
:)

I love the NO Cleaning rule of the day except that I am sitting here on the computer upstairs trying to stay out of the way of the housekeepers that showed up this morning! I will just sit and listen to them clean...does that rule apply?

Hopefully you won't fall asleep if you're driving!
