Best Worst Song Ever

Bethany and I sit right next to each other at work.
We each take turns singing songs that pop in to our heads, in hopes that it we can get the other to sing it (without realizing it)...

I constantly lose this game...She can sing songs all day and I will have them stuck in my head within minutes...

That is, until last week. I found the best "gets stuck in your head" song...

Jenny from the Block, by J-Lo.

So, anytime Bethany says "Ha ha! I got that song in your head!" I say "Don't be fooled by the rocks that I got..." and she begins to cry in defeat...

It's one of my very favorite things to do...

7%--Unacceptable

Wow...Only 7%, I'm really disappointed in myself...

I'm a Total Nerd

Thursday night we drove up to LA to see Mute Math. They were amazing...I've come to the realization that in addition to being a really good band, you must have really good lighting to make a rock show.

Anyway, Thursday night was also premiere night:

Grey's Anatomy
The Office
Smallville

My Tivo caught the first two, but not the last.
The nerdy part is, I would have been fine to miss the first two, but not the last.

I called my friend, Shaun, who (hopefully) has it recorded, and I'll watch it tonight...Otherwise, I may call The CW and ask for a tape...

Sad, I know...

Perspective

Isn't it funny how your opinion of something or someone can change based upon your perspective?

I was just thinking...

"I bought you some flowers"
"I made this list of all of the things I love about you"
"I know this is your favorite candy bar"
"I just want to sit by you all day"
"I missed you"
"I baked these cookies just for you"

Each of these simple phrases can be found to be sweet, if they are said by a dear friend or significant other...

Each of these simple phrases can also be found to be intensely awkward, if they are said by a stalker or stranger...

Funny how lovely words from a mouth can be so easily turned unlovable

4) I love when someone knows me so well that they can tell what I'm thinking just by meeting my eyes
5) I love that you read my blog...
6) I love the feeling of singing a really difficult song, really well
7) I love to complete a detailed, stressful, amazing, creative task

Butt Tattoo

My very first concert was New Kids on the Block.

I vividly remember being in 4th grade and being SO excited to sit on the grass to watch my favorite band sing and dance to the best songs ever.

I also remember, quite clearly, the woman in the parking lot who had won a contest from KISS FM: Backstage passes if she would have KIIS FM tattooed on her rear-end in front of the concert arena. Classy.

On the way to Muse, we were talking about this:

What band do you love so much, that you would be willing to have be publicly tattooed for backstage passes?

I'm going to bet that you won't answer NKOTB.

A-DVD-ICTED

I love TV on DVD.

I may love TV on DVD more than most things.

I really enjoy coming home to a nice, comfy couch, a large bottle of water, and Grey's Anatomy.

Today at lunch, we had talked about the finale of Smallville season 1...and thanks to the brilliance of TV on DVD, we watched it tonight over some ice cream. (side note: if you have not watched Smallville, I highly recommend it; it is such great TV.)

Here are shows that I would love to own on DVD:
* Hey Dude
* Doug
* Small Wonder
* ALF
* Mr. Belvedere
* Perfect Strangers
* Welcome Freshman
* Flash Forward

What would you love to own?

Muse

I saw Muse in concert last night....easily the best concert I've ever seen.

The opening band was "Juliette and the Licks"...the lead singer? Juliette Lewis. She was amazing...wearing white stretch pants, knee pads and a double-feather Native American headband. She was exactly what I would expect my aunt Leesa to be like on stage: jumping, falling, dancing...a total performer. I want to be just like her.

Then, Muse. They would start a song and I would think, "Oh, this one is the best"...then the next song I would think the exact same thing. All night...one song and then the next...such good music.

I stood between two friends (who sang at the top of their lungs the entire time) and in front of a dude who kept yelling "Muse!" I was on my tip-toes all night not wanting to miss anything as he (Matthew Bellamy) played unbelievable piano and would quickly switch to incredible guitar...I couldn't help but shake my head in disbelief that one man could be so talented...and that the phenomenal music on the recording could be so well-duplicated in real life.

Wow...I would see them one hundred more times...and I would pay a large sum of money to sit closer to the stage next time...

Oh...I googled "Muse" and laughed when this picture came up as a result, so I figured I should post it as well...and, just so you know, it's a real picture on her work's website...

Some People

Have ugly kids.

When I was in Target this morning, this woman's child was frighteningly ugly.

Some helpful hints:
* Don't keep your kid's hair so short that she looks like a bald boy.
* Don't let her wear pants that are too short to be pants and too long to be capris.
* Don't put people in the position of having to say "Oh, she's so cute..." Then they're lying right to your face.
* Don't take her in public if she's ugly.

I'm just saying...

Waiter, There's Some Creepy in My Dinner!

Tonight, I took Hillary to Chili's in Mission Viejo.
I know that 'they' say the waiter gets a better tip if he sits down at the table and makes conversation, but sometimes I think that's a little awkward...

Needless to say, our waiter sat right down at our table tonight...pretty close to me, I thought he might just cozy up and put his arm around me...kinda creepy, right? I even had to move my purse because he practically sat down on it.

Hillary and I laughed about it everytime he left our table...He had to know we were laughing at him...

But, 'they' are right...I left him a pretty big tip.

Strawberry Tears Forever

I came home, tonight, to a brand new tub of fresh, ready-to-eat strawberries...

I opened them up...ate one...

If you've ever seen me eat strawberries (or heard me) you would know that there are few times that I look (or sound) more like my mother. I was told, about a week ago, as someone watched me eat strawberries, that I should be in a commercial for them since I so clearly love them...

So, I ate one...and then dropped the entire carton on the ground.

Two stayed in the container...the rest were everywhere...

I'm very sad about that...

Stressed Spelled Backward

Note: I hate that saying...

Tonight, after dining on delicious grilled asparagus and chicken, I had dessert of chocolate milk and teddy grahams (a combination of honey and chocolate). I threw all of the bears in my milk and ate them like cereal...oh man, it was tasty.

What's your favorite dessert?

Grey Might Be My New Favorite Color

Three Future Career Options

In my life, I have seen many professions that are money-makers.
If I were to start a company, based solely on my desire for wealth, here is the list I would choose from:

1) Dry Cleaning
2) Embroidery
3) Something to do with Palm trees

Each of these companies have pricing systems that are ridiculous.
Great for me, in my new venture as a billionaire.
Bad for me, if I am taking some comforters to be dry cleaned or need my name stitched on a shirt.

Allison's Anatomy

Tonight, I started watching season 1 of Grey's Anatomy.

I really want to be an organ donor. I know that I will have very little say in this since I will be dead when this decision is made...but those pieces will do me no good and could profoundly effect SO many people...

That's it, I just don't have that small pink sticker on my license, so I wanted to put this down somewhere as proof...

Jeff Maguire

This is my friend, Jeff.

The other night at dinner, any time someone said something funny, Jeff would mimic typing on a computer keyboard and monologuing "Dear Blog..." and re-tell the joke as if I were writing it down.

In my defense, there are too many funny things that happen each day to document them all in blog-form.

In his defense, I did take this picture of him scooting around the alley behind his house and posted it for the world to see...

Jeff, I think you are funny...and I wish you would blog because I think you would be a hit.

Friendly Flag Fun

At church this weekend, Rick had the staff come in at the end of service carrying flags from all of the countries of the world--showing that we, as a church, are committed to going to every country.

Here's Bethany and me at the 11:15 service. Bethany is carrying a very tough flag (spears and all), I have the weakest of all (complete with Parrot). My very kind friend, Beave, traded me shortly after this picture was taken, and I carried the Union Jack through the Worship Center. Hooray! I love the UK!

I Love This Story

My Papa wrote the story of how he met my Grandma...
I've heard this story hundreds of times...and I still love it.

You can read it here.

If I Had a Million Dollars...

I would:

-- buy tons of "I saw this and thought of you" gifts

-- always pay for the whole group when we went out to eat

-- leave a tip every time I went to Starbucks

-- pack up and move to Kenya for a while

What would you do with a million dollars?

Running out...

I ran out of conditioner last week...

Yesterday, I ran out of shampoo.
Then toothpaste.
Then Kleenex.
Then milk.
Then Cokes.

Funny that I would run out of everything all at one time...guess I have to go to the store today.

David Hughes, This One's For You

This morning, as I was getting ready, I had Saved By the Bell on in the background. It was about 7:50, so I caught the end of one episode and the beginning of another. Let me preface this story with this: it was The College Years, which I don't love, but will happily watch.

Kelly had quit her job at the Health Center and been hired at a restaurant as a waitress. Apparently, her coworkers caused her to go downhill and all of her friends (Zack, Slater and the other two new girls) were really upset with her recent behavior. No worries, though, because Zack talks some sense in to her and, in the end, everything is resolved.

Here's why I tell this story. At the very end of the episode, Zack and Kelly are talking:

Kelly: "You're always there to help me when I'm in trouble...why is that?"
Zack: "Because we've been through a lot together...Can I walk you to class?"
Kelly: "Sure."
Zack: "What is it that we have?"
Kelly: "Chemistry"

(they kiss, the crowd 'awwww's)

And, for some reason, all I could think is "Wow, David Hughes would really appreciate this..."

So, there you go...

Jersey Girl

I'm sitting at home, editing C-Group curriculum...watching Jersey Girl on TV.

Oh, and I'm totally crying.

It's been on for about an hour and I've already cried three times...

It's on TV, so it's edited...which is a good thing, since it's not a very good movie...but Ben Affleck is a very nice-looking gentleman.

Ron, I Need Your Help: Part 2 of 2

Here's my other scientific dilemma:

Do electrolytes cause water retention?

They suggest that athletes drink Gatorade (etc) because they are filled with electrolytes...is this because they help fight dehydration?

909 Day

Tuesday was 909 Day at work. The instructions were to "dress like they do in the 909".

Bethany is from Riverside, so this was very exciting for her. She bought prizes for the best costumes...

She and I were the only two to dress up...we met at Starbucks so we wouldn't look stupid heading in alone...we still looked stupid.

When we got to work and realized that it was just us, we quickly took some pictures and changed in to 949 clothes.

Here are a few of the pictures. (Note: I won the female award, by default...no one won the male award, instead we allowed Matt Hall to try it on for photos)

The Irresistable Revolution

I'm reading this book right now. I can't even explain how much I love it. I borrowed it from my friend, so I can't write in it...instead, I've been copying the passages I like on to a drawing tablet by my bed. So far, I have two pages worth.

Here are a few of my favorites so far:

"We do indeed have a God of resurrection, a God who can create beauty from the messes we make of our world."

"I would watch intently, fascinated by their love and compassion."

"What had lasting significance were not the miracles themselves but Jesus' love"

And the passage that, so far, has been the most moving...which I read at least five times and had tears in my eyes each time:

"Two guys are talking to each other, and one says he has a question for God. He wants to ask God why He allows all of this poverty and war and suffering to exist in this world. And the friend says, 'well, why don't you ask?' The fellow shakes his head and says he's scared. When his friend asks why, he mutters, 'I'm scared God will ask me the same question.' Over and over, when I asked God why all of these injustices are allowed to exist in the world, I can feel the Spirit whisper to me, 'You tell me why we allow this to happen. You are my body, my hands, my feet."

Happy Birthday Kate!

It's my friend Katie's birthday today.

I really like her...

This is a long clip from a funny episode...the end is my favorite part...

What do you think...if I go back to being blonde, what are the odds that I could look like this:

I'd really like to try for this...

While YouTubing...

I also love this video...

After "Piano Man"

This song was stuck in my head...technically, it's not a real song, but I love it...

What I Want to be When I Grow Up...

My friend and I were laughing tonight thinking about the possible answers a teacher could get when they ask their students what they want to be when they grow up...

What do you think would be the funniest (honest) answer a child could give?

8 o'clock on Monday morning

and I have "Piano Man" stuck in my head.

"...Paul is a real estate novelist/who never had time for a wife/and he's talking with Davey/who's still in the navy/and probably will be for life..."'

This could make for a very long day.

Apple Dress

I bought a dress that has apples all over it. I actually really love it...but every time I put it on, I chicken out...and so, I've never worn this dress outside of my bedroom.

Today, at church, a woman walked by wearing this dress...in my jealousy over her confidence, I said to her "I have that dress, but I've never been able to wear it out of my house...I love it!"

She, the stranger, said back to me, "Wear it! I love it too!"

Bethany said, "Now, do you know her or are you just being overly-friendly?"

I guess I was being overly friendly...but I think we are fashion-friends...people are united by style.

Post 666...

Yeeks...

I Got a Tattoo Today

I went to the Blakeney's this afternoon...and Shaun said "Hey, let's go get tattoos today."

My response: "Yes...The answer is yes."

So, here's Shaun getting his tattoo...the picture of his tattoo was too blurry...

And here's me getting my tattoo...and here's my tattoo.

I love it. It hurts a little bit...but I love it.

It's a broken heart, to remind me that my heart needs to be broken for the things that break God's heart.

Hosanna

I just sent this email to the JH team...but I can't get this song and these emotions out of my head...

ho·san·na
interj. Used to express praise or adoration to God.

n.
1. A cry of "hosanna."
2. A shout of fervent and worshipful praise.

Tonight, as we were singing this song, I got a little teary-eyed.
In light of the 10x10 Vision, the second verse and the bridge were super moving...

I see a generation
Rising up to take the place
With selfless faith, with selfless faith
I see a new revival
Stirring as we pray and seek
We're on our knees, we're on our knees

Hosanna, hosanna
Hosanna in the highest

Heal my heart and make it clean
Open up my eyes to the things unseen
Show me how to love like you have loved me
Break my heart for what breaks yours
Everything I am for your kingdom's cause
As I walk from earth into eternity

This last part has been my prayer for the last month or so...
specifically
"show me how to love like you have loved me
break my heart for what breaks yours
everything I am for your kingdom's cause"

Such great phrasing...such beautiful thoughts...I would love to be this person...

Dick Cheney Day

Today, September 7th, 2007 was the First Annual Dick Cheney Day.
Here are some pictures...it was absolutely amazing.

The best part of this day was the end: we put the Dick Cheney face in a box and gave it to Katie Edwards...so amazing.
