Today in Pictures...

Farmer's Market...so fun

A frappuccino at the ORIGINAL Starbucks.

Lunch: delicious...and rather sunny.

A man, feeding his pet possum. Yep, crazy.

Pictures from yesterday

Our feast: chicken, broccoli, garlic mashed potatoes, steak

Last night at dinner...a little under-dressed for Ruth's Chris.

The most amazing chocolate dessert ever

New Year's Eve

My mom has been waking up at 6:30am and making me wake up at 8 every day. She is always in a rush to start the morning...so yesterday, I asked her to please let me sleep in.

Today, she let me sleep in until 10:45! Hooray! It was wonderful...I had such a strange dream...very vivid...very upsetting...but I can't imagine that would be interesting to you.

Anyway, we laid around and watched Ghostbusters. (Bill Murray is so dang funny.) Then got ready and headed to Pike's Market. It was so fun! We watched the men toss fish back and forth...and yell to each other.

I had fish and chips, my mom had clam chowder in a bread bowl. Delicious!

Then we walked back toward the hotel, but decided to see a movie instead. We saw "A Night at the Museum". I enjoy Ben Stiller. He is somewhat the same character from movie to movie, but I still think he's pretty fun.

On the way back from the movies, we stopped for dinner. I had lobster...and chocolate cake...and some asparagus. YUM!

We ended dinner around 6:20 so we ran back to the theater to catch "The Holiday". It was very cute...I cried at a few parts...and it made me love London more than ever. Matt's on his way there, I'm SO jealous! (Matty, bring me back something good!)

Anyway, now we're back...and we're watching the Seinfeld marathon on TBS...and we'll ring in the New Year in style.

Happy 2007 Everyone!

Down a size...

I just bought jeans from Abercrombie & Fitch...that are one size SMALLER than the ones I had on when I went in.

Eat it 18% body weight competitors.

So far today...

We had appointments this morning at Spa Noir. My mom had a massage and I had a facial.
During one of the many steps involved in facials, she put a lotion on my face that brought back such a strong memory of a scratch and sniff book I had as a kid.

Funny how scents can do that.

Another pointless memory from today:
When my brother was in Elementary School, his choir performed Grease. They had to change the words because, obviously, it is not super child-friendly...
My favorite alteration was from "Beauty School Dropout":

ORIGINAL LINE: "But no customer would go to you, unless she was a hooker"

THEIR VERSION: "But no customer would go to you, because your perm's a cooker!"

We are on our way back to Nordstrom...for lunch...and then we have a late dinner reservation at Ruth's Chris...neither of us have been there before.

Oh, and I made a new friend today...

He's a Canadian Mounty...he loves to praise the Lord.

Miniature World Slideshow

We spent the day in Victoria, British Columbia...Miniature World was definitely the highlight! I even bought a souvenir poster...don't be too jealous, here are some pictures to help make you feel as though you were there with us!

My favorite was the diorama of Buckingham Palace.
My mom loved the circus...

If you look closely, you can see me in the church window.

The 18% Body Weight Challenge

Josh Griffin, Matt Jensen, Tony Steward and I are competing to see who can lose 18% of his or her body weight the fastest. The winner will receive an indoor skydiving session paid for by the other 3 losers who will also pay for their own session.

I bought a little self-incentive today: a slightly expensive dress from White House Black Market...in a much-too-small-for-my-current-body size. This dress will hang in my room as a hopeful reminder of what is to come.

Here's a photo of my beautiful dress. Okay, so I couldn't find one...but trust me, when it fits, I'll post a photo of me in it!

Today in Pictures...

Lots of shopping at the #1 mall in the Seattle guidebook...

Followed by dinner at Ray's Boathouse...the only Seattle Restaurant in 1001 Places to See Before You Die...mostly for the view.

Here's the famous sign...

And here's my delicious dinner: mussels, calamari, giant prawns...YUM!

After dinner, we headed to the Space Needle. It was freezing on top...here's us...

Sleepless in Seattle is my favorite movie. Here's a shot of where Jonah and Sam Baldwin's houseboat was:

And, here's the photo I will submit as a "make a postcard" entry:

Airports, I spent a year there yesterday

We had a little chaos on our way to Seattle last night. We arrived at John Wayne at 2:15. Our flight was supposed to be at 3:50. At 3:45 they announced that the plane was running behind and we wouldn't leave until about 4:45. Which was no big deal, except that we had a 6:09 flight to catch in Oakland. The pilot of the 4:45 flight had to be new...it was a very bumpy ride and the descent seemed to last about an hour. We arrived in Oakland at 6:10. We had missed our flight...or so we thought.

As we disembarked, my mom asked the flight attendant what we should do...she told us not to worry because our 6:09 flight had been delayed. We wandered over to the gate to find that our 6:09 flight had become an 8:14 flight. We had a few burritos and used some $9.95 Internet...I wrote all of my Christmas Thank You cards.

We boarded at 7:55. We were supposed to be in Seattle at 8:30...not so much. We ended up in the airport at 11:30. We made it up to our room at 12:03pm.

The highlight of the day: a post on EURO TRIP BLOG...don't forget to check it out while they're gone.

Christmas Gifts pt. 1

**Due to complaints from those pictured, this photo has been removed.**

A Spanish-language CD of a band called Allison. Me gusta la musica.

They will be mine...oh yes, they will be mine.

I Should Read the Paper

Pluto is no longer an official planet.

Our solar system now consists of 8 "classical planets" and 3 "dwarf planets" (of which Pluto is one).

Apparently this decision was made in August...I learned about it through People Magazine's Best and Worst of 2006. (Which will play a large role in my training for World Series of Pop Culture)

Christmases # 5 and 6

#5 Matt and I ran by my aunt and uncles to say M.C to everyone...we were a little early since both 5 and 6 began at 4...so we bolted in and out...but everyone was really nice and we did get to peek at my cousin's daughter who was taking a nap (she's so cute).

Off to the final party.

#6 Every year my mom's family (read: 5 nieces/nephews, 4 sisters, parents, grand-parents, in-laws, family-less friends, my brother and I--Matt was roped in last year) go to my Grandma and Grandpa's (Bum and Papa, respectively) for a huge Christmas. We made the switch to gift exchange 3 years ago, but no one liked it, so we're back to everyone buys for everyone...SO fun, but it does take a while. This year was really great: everyone buys really personal gifts. (For more detail, you can check out my mom's post.) Even Matt bought for everyone this year and, in my opinion, his were some of the most thoughtful gifts given. My aunt Leesa and her family couldn't make it down from San Francisco, but they sent gifts...and we all stacked hers in the corner for her next visit (New Year's).

It was a great Christmas this year...

Christmases #2, 3, and 4

So, I missed blogging last night...but here's why.

#2 Yesterday, Matt and I drove out to Lake Elsinore to be with his family. We had Christmas with his uncles and aunt, cousins, brother, sister, in-laws, etc. The whole family was there. They have a traditional gift exchange "Chinese Christmas"...Matt won lottery tickets and I won "Pirates of the Caribbean 2". His cousin, who is 7, made us a little paper stocking filled with candy...it was so dang cute. She spelled my name Allyson and was sad to find out she had misspelled it.

#3 We helped clean up from the large party and set-up camp for this morning's party. Matt and I, with Matt's parents, spent the night at his brothers...we woke up this morning to watch his 3-year old nephew open Santa gifts...and then exchanged with his family. We had a huge breakfast and laughed a lot. We had a great time.

#4 We rushed back this morning to have Christmas with my dad and brother. We gave Reese, my dad's dog, some treats...she barfed on the couch...and then she laid in the corner while we exchanged. We gave my dad some great old TV shows on DVD and a cool Ferrari book. Matt, my brother and I received some very generous gifts from my dad...To top it off, we had a very American lunch at Denny's. (The only place in the whole of O.C. that is open today...believe me, I called around)

Off to #5 and 6...I'll post about those later!
Oh, and I think there will be some photos to come...

Christmas Eve Eve

I had a great day today. I love my job, but I LOVE being off work.

An entire Saturday...no clock-watching...no last-second mind-run-throughs...I love the feeling of no service. Even when I'm off, but there is a weekend happening, it's all I can think about: did they find everything? did they remember to grab those cards? are the games fun? will they change anything because it didn't work?

None of that today! It was all about lounging around. Matt came over and we cooked a HUGE breakfast: pancakes, turkey bacon, hash browns, and eggs for Matt. Then we watched Seinfeld, wrapped last minute gifts...that's it. I did not leave the office chair (or the Tivo remote) from 9-4:30...it was such a relaxing day...

We went to my mom's for Christmas. It was so nice. She made manicotti and had delicious bread. She also made a cake, since Matt's birthday is next week. The gifts were mostly monetary, in the form of European currency and Starbucks cards...We bought my mom some books and DVDs...We laughed and chatted...it was very fun. Christmas 1 of 6 down. So far, so good.

When we came back to my house, Matt and I watched Forrest Gump and now I'm blogging while watching FRIENDS season 5.

It really is the most wonderful time of the year.

7:30am

I woke early this morning to meet with my personal trainer. (His name is Joel, but he's for another blog.)

I spent 50 minutes working out and then I drove home. As I came down my street, I was surprised to see my neighbor, who hates my dad, in our driveway. What was she doing there? Oh, stealing our newspaper. She picked up the paper from our driveway and was walking back to her house. I watched the whole thing go down. If I'd had my camera, the "money shot" would have been mine for the taking.

I muttered "Oh, Agnus" under my breath and hit the garage door opener. Mind you, it was pouring rain. She heard the door open and spun around to look me in the face...a deer caught red-handed in headlights.

I pulled in to the garage and got out of the car as fast as I could. She was gone. But, our paper? She had left it sitting on the sidewalk between our house and hers. One inch closer to our side.

You have to get up pretty early in the morning to catch a thief.

Learn Something New Every Day

Did you know that the "12 Days of Christmas" begin on December 25th!?
I wasn't 100% sure whether they begin or end on the 25th...now I know.

I am hoping to celebrate the 12 Days of Christmas next year.

Please pick a day. Here's a list if you are unsure what's on it...

Matt Jensen, you are assigned the Five Golden Rings...but gold is not my favorite, I'd prefer Four Platinum Rings.

10. The Rescue by Nicholas Sparks
9. A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
8. 1984 by George Orwell
7. Catch-22 by Joseph Heller
6. Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut

I could not be more excited

I don't typically blog during work, but this warrented a post.

Harry Potter Book 7 title has finally been announced.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Check out the story here.

Oh...and take a minute to look at her home page (the link is in the article) it is brilliant!

Tag! I'm it...

Emily tagged me, so here are 5 things that you may or may not know about me:

1) I hate Cinnamon. It makes my tongue itch and burn and it makes me think of all of the days my mom would take would take us to Willow Manor...Boresville, population: 1

2) I have been peed on by bats...in Kenya two years ago. Lucky for me, they caught me during the middle of a battle between me and some meat I ate...so I wasn't in the bed under their perch for long periods of time.

3) I was runner-up for "Most Likely to be Famous" during Senior year of High School... I lost, but I am determined to prove those nay-sayers wrong.

4) I thoroughly inspect my carts at Target before committing to one for my shopping experience: no dirt, bird poo, cigarette ashes, moisture of any kind, etc.

5) I am gathering my thoughts to write a book. It will hopefully bring about some discussions...and may help me to accomplish my #2.

Best Week Ever

My job is really never done. (I know, much like the Lord's.)

I spend each week creating a program for our 4 weekend services. There is no "I'll finish this next week"; on Friday, if there are unfinished tasks, I stay until they are done, or work Saturday. It is very easy to see how productive my week was.

Come Friday, the pieces are in place and we "do" the weekend. Tuesday morning, I begin again. My brain is typically in "planning mode" after our Saturday night service. There is no time to waste thinking "Wow. Sure glad that's over." It's more like "Okay, so what are we going to do next weekend?"

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my job. I am energized each week thinking about the planning of the next weekend...semi competition with myself. Can I out-do me?

But, this week, I get a small reprieve and I couldn't be more excited.

No services this weekend or next...NO PLANNING FOR ME!

I "plan" to get a few things done this week, but not to rush. I can finish them next week!

Hopefully This Makes Amends

More than one blog tonight should fill the void from the last week.
Don't you feel better already?

2006 New Year's Resolution

My New Year's Resolution for this year (2006) was to be "less afraid".

Those of you who know me at all are aware that I did not stick to said resolution.

If it's possible, my fear has multiplied itself.

2007 Resolution, prepare to have your butt handed to you.

To Become Smarter

I would really love to be smarter.

I think that will be my New Year's Resolution.

Be less stupid.

Any suggestions on how to keep my resolution?

Top Ten Things On My Christmas List

8. Little Miss Sunshine (DVD)
7. Facial in a Seattle Salon
6. New York Times Easy Crossword Puzzle Book
5. Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf Gift Card
4. Robin Hood (Disney)--New Edition DVD
3. Anthropologie Gift Card
2. Veronica Mars Seasons 1 & 2 (DVD)
1. Christian Louboutin Heels, Size 10

In case you were stumped.

What have I been doing with myself?

Oh...I know...I am ever the hypocrite.

I have hassled others for being postless for 48 hours and here I am going on 168.

Don't get me wrong, I have not lost my blogging passion, I have just been distracted.

I have been spending any available second watching Veronica Mars. I'm about four episodes away from being caught up...

Last week I showed up to work at 11 because I had watched two episodes before I came in. I also ran on about 20 total hours of sleep in 6 days.

It's difficult to conjure up interesting subject matter when you have not lived in reality.

Sunday, December 17, 2006

I'd almost have to erase myself...

That's how long it's been since I've written anything.

I'll be back...in full force...maybe even beginning later tonight!

HELP!

So...we sent in our applications and photos today...
You know, for the World Series of Pop Culture.

I need some help.
PLEASE, if you have any vast knowledge in one or two specific areas, leave me a few test trivia questions. I, as they are left, will do my best to answer the questions.

If I do not know the answer, you may comment on the post that admits my lack of knowledge in your field of expertise.

Oh, and don't try to test me on Veronica Mars trivia...I haven't been blogging since Saturday because I've done very little past watching Season 1 and half of Season 2. That's good TV.

Blog Style

Thank you to MatthewGJensen.com for my brand new Blog Design.

I love it...

Our Team Name

There is an episode of Punky Brewster where they are playing Hide & Seek.
Cherry, Punky's friend, decides to hide in an old refridgerator that is in the backyard.

She closes the door and gets stuck inside...no one thinks to open the fridge to look for her...she almost suffocates.

It was a very serious episode: in the end, they have a PSA telling children not to lock themselves inside anything.

It is also a very serious team name. Thank you, Jake.

Cherry, Get Out of the Fridge

That's us.

We've officially applied to The World Series of Pop Culture.

We submitted an online team name...to "apply"...

This week, we each had to complete a pretty thorough application.

So, we'll see what happens.

On a lighter note...

Ryanne sent me this video. Although I do not love this movie, or this song, the combination of the two is funny to me.Link

"Welcome to Our World"

There are few things that bother me more than people posting song lyrics.
Having said that, I hope it conveys the importance of these words, to my heart.
This Christmas season, I have had the most difficult time listening to these lyrics and not bursting in to tears.
In fact, as I write this now, I can not help but weap. Heavy, shoulder-shaking, tears.

Why? Why did God care so much to do this? How could he send this tiny baby, knowing the pain and suffering He would go through? I know why...I guess what I don't understand is how.

What gets me the most is this...Me, knowing all of this: the sacrifice, the bloodshed, the wounds...why can't I do my part? Why can't I be so overwhelmingly grateful for this act that I can't keep my mouth shut about it...I can't stand to be out of His presence...I don't want to break His heart anymore? Why can't I pull it together and really live to be someone that He can be proud of? Someone who draws others to Him?

How can He still want to love me even with all of my yuck? There are times when I am too ashamed of the things I've said or done to even feel like I can go back to Him. I know I can. But I think that sometimes, knowing that He'll love me no matter what makes the shame of disappointing Him even heavier.

I know that as you read these lyrics, if you are even still reading, you will not feel the same depth of what I am feeling now. But, I hope that your heart is moved, even a tiny bit. The lines in bold are those that usually cause me to sing in only a whisper as my eyes fill.

Tears are falling, hearts are breaking
How we need to hear from God
You've been promised, we've been waiting
Welcome Holy Child.

Hope that you don't mind our manger,
How I wish we would have known.
But long-awaited, Holy stranger,
make Yourself at home

Bring your peace into our violence
Bid our hungry souls be filled.
Word now breaking heaven's silence
Welcome to our world

Fragile fingers sent to heal us
Tender brow prepared for thorns
Tiny heart whose blood will save us
Unto us is born

Wrap our injured flesh around You
Breathe our air and walk our sod
Rob our sin and make us holy
Perfect Son of God

Josh Peters, your mom has a blog...

AND NOW, SO DOES MINE!
Check it out!

Closest Book Meme

Stole this idea from Mike Lovato.

The rules are:
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next four sentences on your blog, along with these instructions.
5. Don’t you dare dig for that “cool” or “intellectual” book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest!

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay
His face, ordinarily a trusting blank surmounted by tousled yellow curls, is creased with worry. He is not measuring the numbers of the audience--his house is sold out, as it has been for every night of the current engagement. He is looking for someone or something that no one will discuss, that he has only inferred, for the unnamed person or thing whose advent or presence has been troubling his company all day.

"The One With the Morning After"

I'll admit I have seen the ten seasons of FRIENDS too many times to count...
Even so, there are two scenes that bring me to tears EVERY TIME.

1. Ross breaks up with Julie and tells Rachel "It's always been you, Rach"-->The One With the List
2. Ross and Rachel break-up because of Chloe. He tells her he can't live without her hands, her good heart...they are both crying.--> The One With the Morning After

I watched the latter scene this afternoon. I was cleaning my room, I wasn't even actually watching the show...and still, I cried.

There is something to be said about the writing of a show, or the acting of a scene if it can evoke this kind of emotion even after a dozen times.

Dear Katie and Gerry,

Your blogs have been added.
Sorry it took me so long.
Your friend,
Allison

Another One Bites the Dust

Wendy Reeves' blog has been removed from my blogs list. This saddens me; I quite enjoyed her posts.

I thought, with the tragic passing, I would pay tribute to those who have expired. Those who could not stand the test of time. Those who retired early.

  • Alanna Pearson
  • Jared Moine
  • Brian Hurst
  • Stephen Perry
  • Josh Garrett
  • Simon Johnston
  • Ryan McAnlis
  • Tommy Hughes
  • Jake Rutenbar (you're not fooling anyone with the once-every-six-weeks post)

Who will be the next to go? My guesses:
  • Jonathan Witt
  • Elizabeth McCauley
  • Kevin Reeves

Speaking this Weekend.

I spoke at all four Wildside services this past weekend.
At last blog about this, I thought my message would be on PERFECTION (God's view, world's view)...on Wednesday, things changed.

I ended up switching with Kurt's planned message for this upcoming weekend...on OPERATION (performing self-surgery...what sin is inside that needs to be surgically removed).

It was a really simple outline with Kurt's notes stuck here and there for me to pick and choose from, which was really helpful (at least to steer my thinking for my own stories or anecdotes).

It was a great weekend. I spent very little time prepping, so I really feel like God showed up and spoke through me...

Christmas Shopping

I am kicking some serious Christm-ass.

I have almost finished Christmas shopping. Each present (but 4) is wrapped. And I have one master list of purchased and unpurchased gifts.

I am very proud of my accomplishment...
I only hope that my message this weekend is just a well-planned.

By Alanna

Alanna no longer has a blog of her own...but she does have a great story to share, so I told her she could post it here.

Winter Wonderland...
The other day I opened up my freezer to get a delicious treat...and this is what it looked like. A friggin' Winter Wonderland. I mean...there was ACTUAL snow in my freezer...and icicles! It was crazy! So when life gives you lemonade...you make...oops...you know what I mean. Jared opened it...took one look at it...and scooped up a huge handful and chucked it at Nikki. Hilarious! I never thought that I'd ever have a snowball fight in my kitchen. Definitely an experience I recommend. In fact...if you'd like to have this experience all you have to do is force the little flap where the ice comes out to stay open...and you too can have snow ball fight in Orange County. Fun for the whole family...

Top Ten Things About My Future Kids

Everyone always sees other people's children and says "My kids will never be like that!" If I ever have kids, these are things that will be true of them:

10. They will smile and say hello when they are greeted by someone.
9. They will never say "yuck" about food that someone else is eating.
8. They will sit quietly and behave in restaurants and airplanes.
7. They will not cry and get their way.
6. They will be go-with-the-flow; easily entertained.
5. They will play a musical instrument.
4. They will always wash their hands after using the restroom.
3. They will be taught to believe in Santa Claus, The Tooth Fairy, and The Easter Bunny.
2. They will love to travel and have adventures.
1. They will always have clean clothes, hands and faces. (No snotty noses, dirty cheeks and stained clothes.)

Now, I understand that some of this operates in fantasy...and some in a "children should be seen and not heard" mindset. I have a feeling that my kids will be very few of these things...

The internet is a wonderful thing.

Here are things I learnt from Dictionary.com and AskOxford.com

PLURALS:
* The plural of NO is NOES.
* The plural of CHRISTMAS is CHRISTMASES.
*When referencing a decade (ex. 1930s), no apostrophe is necessary.

AFFECT/EFFECT:
I am always unsure about this one...I know the rule, but always second-guess myself in the moment. (I'll bet you didn't know that second-guess was hyphenated.)
The rule is, AFFECT influenced the happening of something. EFFECT was the direct cause.

Cold Disposition

I have been really lethargic lately. I think it has something to do with the cold...and the dark.
I LOVE to cuddle up in my bed (which, incidentally, has three comforters on it right now) and watch movies...or do crossword puzzles. I have been reluctant to open my books, even though I have at least five that I am waiting to read.

I've gotta liven up.

Daylight Savings

Please come soon.

I am ready for it to be light out at 5:30pm.

World Series of Pop Culture #2

Josh Treece, Josh Griffin and myself are planning to audition (and hopefully compete) in the 2007 World Series of Pop Culture on VH1.

Now all we need is a name...any ideas?

Teaching this weekend

I am speaking in Wildside this weekend.
We are in the midst of a series called "PLAY IT! Because Life is Like a Game"

Last week Kurt talked about SCRABBLE: The power of words.

This week I'm up with PERFECTION: God's view vs. Ours

Any tips, suggestions, anecdotes?

Junior High Girls Amaze Me

It baffles me that stupidity and brilliance can co-exist in such a way.

Although, I suppose this is not restricted to Junior High girls...I would imagine this could be apropos of almost anyone.

25 Christmas Movies in 25 Days

Can it be done?

Matt Jensen and I are 3 movies in...and going strong.

So far:
Elf
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
A Christmas Story

Still to come:
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Home Alone (1 and 2)
A Charlie Brown Christmas

Any suggestions?

Dropping Like Flies

I just updated the list of "Blogs I Read Daily".

If a blog has been "post-less" for one month, they are removed from the list. (This is a change from the previous two-week rule.)

The list is getting shorter each month.

Who will be the next to go?

Christmas Music

Thanksgiving has passed and thus, the Christmas season is officially upon us.

As a tradition/rule, I begin listening to Christmas music on the day after Thanksgiving.

But this is no ordinary Christmas music enjoyment.

It is all Christmas music, all the time, until Christmas Day. I have 16 Christmas albums (17 after my visit to Target this afternoon) that are on shuffle on my i-Pod day in and day out (I'm not really sure what that expression means, but I think it is used correctly).

I listen to whatever comes on, but my favorites are "What Child is This?" Lyndsey Lloyd Wallace, "Ave Maria" Harry Connick, Jr., and "Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays" *NSYNC.

What's your favorite Christmas album?

Thanksgiving #5

Sorry about the delay, I know you were on edge waiting.

Thanksgiving #5--My mom and her family (and Matt)
Food: Homemade/Fresh out of the package
Best Food Item: Croissants
Company: Great. My aunt and her family came down from San Francisco...it was really fun.
Length: We were there for about 6 hours; we played a game in the end...so that passed the time a bit. I don't think it was too long (though Matt Jensen may have a different opinion on that!)
Conversation: My 3-year old cousin Thea told us all about her friend Eric. Hilarious. My brother and his friend, Cameron, asked her a few follow-up questions that had funny answers.
Surprise Twist: My aunt Sarah called from Hawaii to tell us she is pregnant!

Thanksgiving #1-4

I will eat 5 Thanksgivings this year.
I have eaten 4 so far...

Here they are in review...

#1--Student Ministries Staff Thanksgiving, Tuesday
Food: Claim Jumper, pretty delicious...
Best Food Item: Biscuits
Company: Really fun...a room with those people is always full of laughter
Length: Being that it was a work-day, during an already short week, I had to rush out to get some stuff done...but it was a descent length.
Conversation: Eh, it was actually mostly about Thanksgiving plans...and almost everyone said the same thing...I'm sure I sound rude, but it was kind of boring.
Surprise Twist: Rick Warren and Glen appeared toward the end...and stole the show...

#2--JH Small Group Thanksgiving, Tuesday
Food: Potluck, and really delicious.
Best Food Item: Mashed Potatoes and Gravy (well done, Rachel J)
Company: The girls are totally fun...a little crazy and loud...they tend to talk over each other, but tons of energy made for a fun night.
Length: An hour and a half...I had already eaten one Thanksgiving, so I was pretty tired when this one was over...
Conversation: We chatted about being thankful for your family...including them in your daily life...Sue gave her testimony about her relationship with her mom...it was really cool to hear so many different perspectives on family interactions.
Surprise Twist: Gulliver's Corn. It looked like corn soaked in milk...but one of my girls brought it, so I felt like I had to taste it...surprisingly good.

#3--My family (one side) Thanksgiving, Thursday
Food: Balboa Bay Club set-menu; crab salad, lobster bisque, turkey dinner, apple cobbler
Best Food Item: Lobster Bisque--anytime I can eat that, I'm excited.
Company: My dad, brother and Grandparents...and Matt--continuously interesting conversation...my brother is really great at keeping conversation flowing...it was really very fun.
Length: About 2 hours. The food and Diet Coke kept coming, it was a good amount of time...we may have stayed longer, but we had to rush to Matt's house. Perfect length.
Conversation: All over the board, LOST, the screenplay my brother is writing, his upcoming Italy trip, my dad's race car classes, my Grandparent's remodel...
Surprise Twist: My Grandma rolling her eyes at the number of times my aunt and uncle have seen Phantom of the Opera!

#4--Matt's entire family Thanksgiving, Thursday
Food: Home-made...and, though I was full from #3, I did sneak a bite of turkey and stuffing...really good stuff.
Best Food Item: Stuffing. Best I've had so far.
Company: Matt's parents, his mom's brothers and her mom, his brother and sister and their families, and me.
Length: About 6 hours. A long time...but it actually didn't feel that long...it was a relaxing 6 hours.
Conversation: All over the board, I spent a ton of time with the 3-year old boys that were there...SO fun. Then talked to his sister and sister-in-law...and his aunt...really easy, light consistent conversation.
Surprise Twist: I Love the '80s Trivia Game. Our team won! (Well done, Uncle John!) We laughed and had some pretty tense competition...but it was such a fun end to the night.

Okay, #5 is tomorrow at 4...I'll keep you posted.

Elliptical Thoughts part 3

As I looked around the gym tonight I wondered a few things:

*At what point does one consider themselves "overweight" and in need of a serious workout regime? 15 pounds? 30 pounds? 2 sizes? Someone mistaking them for being pregnant?

*At what age does it stop becoming cute that a kid is pudgy? When is it okay to bring your kid to the gym with you and get them in to shape? At what age is it still considered child abuse to make your child run on the treadmill for an hour?

*When you leave to go to the gym, do you try to look your worst? Your best? Forget looks, go for comfort? I saw a few people tonight looking very haggard. It just made me wonder. I don't attempt beauty, but I always dress in such a way that I could stop somewhere on the way home and not be embarrassed about looking like I just climbed out of a dumpster in 1985.

Oh, and I also saw a bit too much of an older man's crotchal region...yikes! Tuck them in, sir.

The Blog of Judgement

All of my blogging energy typically goes toward one ultimate goal: making it on to Josh Griffin's Great Stuff from My Friends' Blog.

Each day I find myself trying very hard to be interesting enough, funny enough, eloquent enough to make it in to this list of honor. And each week I await the decision: was I good enough this week?

I mentioned this to him once; that I was so sad that I hadn't been good enough that week. I think he feels guilty now, because good or bad, I'm on the list.

Griff, don't treat me with any special privileges. I want to be on an equal playing field. And then, I want to blow the competition out of the water with a killer post.

Thank you, dear friend, for raising the bar.

Interesting Story...

I have not left my house all day. In fact, I have not left my bed for more than 30 minutes (an hour total). I have been laying around watching Will and Grace and reading People magazines.

Here's an interesting story from the pages of People:
Some schools in Texas are having elementary students enter a pin number as they pay for their lunch. In interest of decreasing childhood obesity, parents fill out a detailed form deciding what their kids can and can not purchase at lunch. If any of the items the child picks up happen to be on the "can not" list, the lunch lady may not sell that item to that child.

What ever happened to "up for grabs"? If I were at that school, I'd buy all the junk food and sell it to the kids who can't have it. I bet I'd make a fortune. OR, why doesn't the school get rid of the junk food? Then there is no need for the monitoring.

Office Clean Up

As I cleaned my desk at the office today before I went home (a new "Friday afternoon rule"), I picked up a stack of "To Do" lists from recent weeks. The funny thing is, each of the lists had a few of the same tasks written on them. Among these: credit card reconciliation, buy gift cards, add Design Team to the calendar.

I did all three of those things this week.

The reason I bring it up is two-fold:

1) It was not good enough for me to simply cross these tasks off of today's "To Do" list; I had to cross them off of each of the lists they had appeared on. Oh, and I made sure to use a red pen: one that was light enough to see the cross-through, but not make the completed task illegible.

2) I ended up holding about 6 pieces of paper filled with crossed-off tasks. One might think that those lists could be thrown away. Oh no, I quickly filed them in my "Completed To Do Lists" file with the rest of my lists from the last 2 years in this job.

I'm sure this would qualify me for some type of support group, but I am quite happy to track my productivity.

So...do you make "To Do" lists? If so, save or delete? Check-mark, cross-through or erase completed tasks?

Finish the Sentence

I don't know...how I will spend my Friday night

I talk...softer than the average girl

I love...the taste of cold water

My best friend...has known me more than half of my life

My first real kiss...was slimey

I hate it when people...slow down blocks before they actually turn

Love is...patient, kind, etc.

Marriage is...not to be taken lightly.

Somewhere, someone is thinking..."I have to go pee"

I'll always...do things to the best of my ability

The last time I cried was because...Marissa Cooper died

My cell phone...shuts off by itself sometimes

When I wake up in the morning...I take a shower

Before I go to sleep at night...I watch an episode of FRIENDS and do a crossword puzzle

Right now I am thinking about...the crossword puzzle I'm going to do on
ce I finish this.

Babies are...a lot of work.

Today I...was amazingly productive

Tonight I will...hang out with Matt Jensen

Tomorrow I will...Take Matt Jensen on a surprise date.

I really want...some ice cream

I tag...David Ulrich, Cathi Workman

If only I could write like this...

From Special Topics in Calamity Physics...nope, I haven't finished it yet...
I can't get this out of my head. It is just so brilliant.

"She emphasized what few wanted to accept, that some people did win Trivial Pursuit:The Deity Looks Edition and there wasn't a thing you could do about it, except come to terms with the fact you'd only played Trivial Pursuit: John Doe Genes and come away with three pie pieces.

If I could write like this, I would have a novel out as well.

Elliptical Thoughts part 2

I was not thinking that this would make such a speedy return, but I had a funny gym visit tonight.

When I walked in, I handed the guy at the front desk my card. He scanned it and then smirked as he handed it back to me.
Me: "What are you laughing at?"
Him: "You are just making me smile."

Awkward.

So, I get on the elliptical machine and all I can think is "I wonder what he was laughing at." I kept thinking: Maybe there is something in my teeth? Maybe I have a huge booger? Maybe my hair is ridiculous looking? Maybe I have a big zit? Maybe my shirt is see-through?

For the next 20 minutes, I could not get passed it. I kept wiping my nose, checking my teeth with my tongue, I took my hair down and put it back up...I couldn't move on.

I had decided that after my workout, I would confront him. It would go something like this:
me: "Hey, what were you laughing at before?"
him: "oh, nothing."
me: "You can't do that to people. Especially people who are already self-conscious coming in to the gym."
him: "You're right. I'm stupid. Please forgive me. I was just smiling about your Dharma shirt, I love that show."

I marched (not literally) up to the front desk, ready for an explanation, or an apology...only to find that he had gone.
Next time. Mark my words: we'll have words.

Elliptical Thoughts

An Elliptical machine at the gym simulates a running motion without actually going anywhere...

As I used this machine today, my thoughts were rather 'elliptical'.

Monday, November 13th. Noon.
As I "cardio-ed" today for 20 minutes, I watched a woman clean the giant mirrors in the "class" room.
As I watched her, my mind wandered...
What was she thinking about while she cleaned?
What she singing along to the song being played, just as I was?
How often does she clean these mirrors?
Does she have a descending count in her head as she moves toward the end of the line?
Does she count this as her workout, since technically she is in a gym?
Does she hate every second of cleaning these mirrors...and enjoy cleaning the machines?

As I thought all of these things, I couldn't help but wonder if someone was watching me and thinking the same sort of thoughts.
Probably not...

Cool vs. Uncool

I wonder if back in caveman times there were "cool kids" and "uncool kids"? I wonder what designated their category? Were the "cool kids" the ones who learned to hunt earlier? Those who knew where to find the good flint?

I know this seems silly, but it had to start somewhere...

I spent this weekend in "big church" with The Walk (JH and HS choir)...and there is a definite distinction between "cool" and "uncool". What makes that difference?
Why can I, years removed from their groups, still sense the divide and even categorize them in my head?

Working with JH students, I can often tell who I would have hung out with if I were their age. I'd like to think that I was in the 3rd group--not "cool", but not "uncool"...somewhere in the middle. I was the choir girl who was too cool for the other choir kids. (Seriously, like there's a difference.)

I also wonder if every kid (or the majority) feels that they are cool. Do the "uncool" groups feel cool in their own heads? There is definitely a kid in the AV club who would be considered the coolest of them...who or what decides this?

I'm looking at a boy right now who is wearing a pink shirt. This, to me, is nerdy. I've also seen boys wearing pink that look cool. Where does this distinction lay?

I'm sure there are very few of you actually reading this still...it is getting pretty long...

For those of you who are...where do you stand? Cool or uncool? Where did you stand in JH and HS?

more trivia questions

1. What was the Munster's address?
2. What did Fred Gwynne do after starring as Herman Munster?
3. What English word contains all 5 vowels in alphabetical order?
4. If broccoli and cauliflower are from similar shaped plants, why is broccoli green and cauliflower white?
5. What movie did Ricki Lake star in before becoming a talk show host?
6. What band sings a song called "Talk Show Host"?

Seriously, I could write a game...eat it Trivial Pursuit.

I have time issues

Every Saturday, I deal with the same thing: I'm afraid I won't have enough time to run errands, or "do anything" before I have to be at work.

For example, today I had to be at the church at 3:45. I woke up at 10 and thought, I'd better not watch any of The O.C. today, I might be late to church. Because, in my head, waking up at 10 meant most of the day was shot.

Last Saturday, I met Matt for lunch and then we did a little Christmas shopping. I had to be at church at 4:45...and I was so nervous that I wouldn't make it back in time...At 3, I asked Matt if he thought we were pushing it time-wise and if we should head back (oh, by the way, we were at Best Buy in Mission Viejo--not South Coast Plaza).

So, I often opt for lounging around...for some reason I am confident that I will arrive on time if all I do all day is lay in bed.

I think I could write a trivia game

I know a lot of ridiculous things. I know a lot about nothing.

I think I could write a trivia game...except for the History portion...unless the History was in reference to Celebrities or Television or some sort of entertainment-related information.

Honestly. I know some things.

What was Elvis' middle name?
What was the first video played on MTV?
What is Cory Matthew's allergic to?
What animal does Lenny repeatedly talk about in "Of Mice and Men"?

I know this...and more.

I have already purchased Christmas gifts for 6 people.

They are already wrapped.

I have a list going...my hope is to be completely done with my Christmas shopping by December 10th.

I think I stand a good chance of reaching that goal.

When do you start Christmas shopping?

Courtney Gause, I'd like to see you try this.

Dear Mike Lovato and Taffy

You are changing lives.

This weekend I have seen the product of your involvement in youth ministry.

Mike Lovato, I sat next to a student last night that ran the HSM service (computers: Mediashout, PPT). His name is Zac. He told me that he knows all about Mediashout and PPT because of you. He is 15 years old and choosing to use his computer knowledge, not to hack in to XXX sites, but to serve God each Saturday night. Thank you for having invested in that kid. His life is different because of you. Our church is different because of his changed heart. I miss working alongside of you. Your quiet leadership was such an amazing example to many of our “introverted” adult and student leaders.

Taffy, I could not keep my emotions inside this morning...I was so proud of everything these students have become. I know that it is because of your heart for them. I know that the hours and hours and hours that you have worked alongside of them...teaching them and opening doors of opportunity...that is why they spent this weekend on stage, musically worshipping God. That is why I couldn't keep from tearing up this morning...I am so proud of them. I can't believe that these are the same 11 and 12 year olds that once played terrible drums or sang off-key. Now, they are young adults, leading adults to the throne of God. I am so proud of you. Proud of the role you play in our church. Of the role you play in the lives of these students.

Thank you both. Thank you for being a role model to me in my ministry. Thank you for being a role model to our students. The face of the church will be radically better because of these students who have hearts for God...because of you.

You are changing lives. I've seen the proof.

New Offices!

We are no longer homeless...We moved in to our new offices yesterday (though I didn't blog about it because I was afraid they would take it away again)...

I thought I would make a short list of pros and cons...please keep in mind that these are only based on the 16-ish hours I have been in this building.

PROS:
--No code on the copy machine
--No "shuttle parking lot"
--No "parking lot is full" emails
--It's just Student Ministries
--We cleaned out a lot of stuff during the move
--It feels like being an intern again...lots of talking through walls...
--No waiting in line for the bathroom. I have been the only one in there everytime I've gone.
--I can hear everyone's conversations

CONS:
--I can hear everyone's conversations
--No soda machine, or water machine (yet)
--The sinks in the bathroom are push down...I am not feeling fully sanitized after each wash
--The mirrors in the bathroom are angled down so they are very unflattering
--The front door is always open and the bathroom is right there, so I am afraid someone is lurking in there waiting for prey
--There are still tons of boxes everywhere from the move

I was pregnant on Wednesday

I dressed as Sue (my co-leader) for a Droopy's Halloween Party...
I stuffed my sweatshirt with a pillow, had an itchy black wig, which I quickly took off...and some white face make-up (because she is a pale Swiss-German)...

Guilty Pleasures #8

I love when I remember ridiculous old stories.

I have tons of memories that are just mine...that's my favorite part of reading Storytime with Kevin: those are his memories, no one else's.

This afternoon I was reading some comments on my pee the bed post...and I thought about the time I was in Mexico and woke up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. I threw some shoes on and ran to the porta-potties...I squated and started to pee. Now, I was minus a flashlight, so I couldn't really see what was happening...Turns out, this particular potty had a seat cover...and I had not put it up, instead I had peed all over it.

The next morning some students came out to say someone had peed all over the porta-potty...I said "Eww...gross. Who would do that?"

Those are the types of memories I have all day...chances are, if you catch me smiling to myself, I've just remembered one of them.

I'm supposed to use this on my head?

This morning, I was putting some make-up on and smelled the toxic fumes of burning plastic.
I walk in to my bathroom to find my hair straightener ablaze...smoke and everything.

I pick it up and unplug it...and there were two long, thin singe marks on the bathroom counter.

Here's what my $100 straightener currently looks like:

Oh, the metal pieces melted off of the plastic backing...WHY would something you are supposed to put near your skin have a setting to get hot enough to melt itself...and burn a countertop?

Otherwise, your pumpkin looks like this:

By the way, mine was oozing a clear liquid...Matt said they were tears from destroying its soul.

Mani-Pedi Cure for Diseases?

Katie and I just went to have our nails done...this doesn't sound like an interesting story, but hold on...there's more.

So, I sit in the chair and a man comes to do my manicure. Yes, a man.

He sits down and the first thing I notice is this GIANT hair sticking out of the middle of his neck...Oh, it's at least 4 inches long. One single strand of thick black neck hair: hanging over his collar as if it belongs there. Yuck.

THEN, Katie's manicurist (a woman) starts hacking and coughing and doing that sick sniff of phlegm and swallowing it noise...very John Candy in "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles". Double Yuck.

All in all, our nails look great...but it was a pretty disgusting experience.

Katie thinks she caught Hepatitis...there's no cure for that, right?

I had "the dream" on Saturday night

Remember when you were a little kid and you had the dream that you were going to the bathroom...and then you peed your bed?

Oh, I had that dream on Saturday night. Luckily only a few drops of pee came out before I realized what was happening and ran to the bathroom...

Grandparents Just Don't Understand

Last night I was trying to explain a "blog" to my Grandparents. Yikes!
They could not figure it out.

I was saying things like "Online Diary", "My Own Website"...blank stares.

You might be thinking, "Well, they were born before computers existed, maybe they don't understand the technology"...

Oh no, they're in their early 70s...and have computers and TiVo and wireless internet...AND, any man capable of sending dozens of semi-entertaining email forwards each day, can use a computer...

I began the explanation with my Grandma, she turned to my Grandpa and said, "Allison was just telling me about her Google"...

BLOG is not in her vocabulary, but GOOGLE is.

Lunch Room Fun

So, being that the Student Ministries staff is office-less this week, we all set-up camp in the lunch room for work. At one point, there were 18 of us, each equipped with at least one computer. Those who came in to actually use the lunch room were disappointed with the lack of table space.

We chose to look at the situation as an opportunity for a good time. This began at 9:30am with Kurt Johnston telling the first non-JH-non-HSM staff person to "stop barging in to our office". He repeated the joke and second and third time...each time getting a good response from the receiver...and from myself and Katie.

And so, it became our game. Kurt had a meeting, so I took over the assaulting...then when I left, Jamie took over. Katie kept a running tally of the day's efforts. One point for each person that came in, Executive pastors were valued at 5 points, 10 for Pastor Glen and 20 for Rick Warren.

At the day's end, we had exactly 100 points. I "yelled" at Tom Holladay for barging in. Jamie yelled at both Rick Muchow and Glen.

It was a great laugh for the entire Student Ministries staff.

Any suggestions for tomorrow's lunch room fun?

Red Lipstick

I bought a beautiful tube of red lipstick today during lunch. I wore it back to work and people didn't know what to do...

Matt Hall couldn't help but stare...and snicker.

I think maybe the world's not ready for Red-Lipped Allison...I think I'll need to ease them in to it.

Guilty Pleasures #7

Today's guilty pleasure is one that I share with a majority of the population: the snooze button.

I love to turn off the alarm and go back to sleep. Most of the time, the snooze button doesn't even come in to play; I just turn it off and hope that I wake up at a decent time to get ready for work.

Sometimes if I think about a time for long enough, I can wake up at that time...much like Kramer in an episode of Seinfeld.

So, that's it. I like to sleep in.

Apparently I look like no one

I have tried all day to find my Celebrity Look-Alikes on http://www.myheritage.com.

Elizabeth was telling me about it, she said that her results showed Katherine Heigl from Grey's Anatomy, and Halle Berry...could 2 people look less alike?

Anyway, I've tried 3 pictures of myself...to no avail. Even the one picture of me and Matt...Matt's face showed about 10 results...mine: none.

I think I must look so unique that no one would ever confuse me for someone else.

Today is my birthday

Remember when you were little and your birthday was the best day ever? You couldn't go to sleep the night before knowing that the next day would be so great...You brought cupcakes to school and everyone would sing Happy Birthday and give you gifts...and you always got 4 or 5 presents from your parents...

When did things change? When did all of that fade and your birthday became another day that you had to get up and go to work? A day that you probably don't have a birthday party because someone in your family has other plans, or you have a prior engagement?

I'm not saying today wasn't great--it was...I got calls and texts all day long saying H.B and a bunch of Myspace comments...and my C-Group gave me an amazing gift with a cake and card...it was great.

It just didn't feel like my birthday. It felt like another day with cake and presents. A great day, but not 6-year-old-waited-all-year-for-this-day-can-barely-contain-the-overwhelming-excitement-want-to-talk-about-it-all-day-long-amazing.

Does this make any sense?

The bonus of being a grown-up: 4 birthday parties (friends, C-Group, mom's fam, dad's fam)...totally sweet.

This is one of the cutest pictures ever...

For multiple reasons:

a) This kid is super cute.
b) She's wearing a kid-version of the Goody Bag shirt from my party.
c) She cried when she had to take it off that night before bed.

My actual Monday

Up early.
Sweep the kitchen.
Order pens for Wildside.
Watch TV.
Move furniture back in to the house.
Shower.
Laundry.
More TV.
Watch V for Vendetta.
Blog.

All in all, a pretty good Monday...though I wish I had slept a little more.

My ideal Monday

Sleep in a bit.
Watch some TV (preferably something on DVD so I can lay in my bed and not watch commercials).
Eat some pita chips and hummus.
Blog.
Read a few magazines.
Drink a Diet Dr. Pepper.
Take a short nap.
Read the blogs of others.
Check my email.
Watch some cheezy teen movie that no one would ever want to watch with me.
Do a crossword puzzle or two.
Read some of my book.

Things you will not see on my list of ideal Monday happenings:
A Shower.
Driving my car.
Cleaning my room.

Out of the Office

We are office-less for the next week, maybe two.
I'll be officing out of boxes in the back seat of my car and moving to anywhere that will house my need for internet.
We should be around the church, and probably in Tully's a bit.

The part I'm nervous about is getting the weekend all set...I've had very little success with creating the bulletin on my laptop. I'm sure it will be fine...

We'll be on a great big fun day on Wednesday...all of Student Ministries. I can't wait.

I'll keep you posted on the progress of the offices.

My Favorite Restaurants in the World #11

This post may cause me to lose some food-credibility...if I had any to begin with...

McDonald's.

I love it. I love the Chicken Nuggets when dipped in Sweet and Sour sauce. I love the french fries. I love the 99-cent double-cheeseburgers. I love the Diet Coke. I love the McFlurry.

My favorite part about McDonald's: it tastes the same EVERYWHERE. I know people complain that it is processed and frozen and blah, blah, blah...bottom line: that just means the freshness and taste is consistent world-wide.

Amsterdam airport. You've just come off of a 10-hour flight from America. Your body says it's dinner-time, but Holland claims it's 4am. There is a small food court with about 3 choices: danishes, pizza, McDonald's. I vote McDonald's. You know how it will taste, you know how it will settle in your stomach, you know that Kenya is devoid of all McDonald's and thus you must get your fill now.

London. It's raining, you are in Harrod's. Your choices: eat in the expensive Starbucks on the first floor, pick up a few things in the deli and sit on the curb outside to eat, or walk a few doors down and eat at McDonald's. (To be totally honest, I would hop the tube to the closest Wagamama)...but of those 3 immediate options: McDonald's.

I'm sure some of you shake your head in disgust at the thought of a McDonald's extra value meal...I nod my head in delicious memories. That is why this is called MY favorite restaurants and not THE best restaurants.

I do Sudoku

What a great end to a fun night!

Congratulations! You solved the Sudoku in 3 minutes, 41 seconds!

Your average time: 6:00
Your fastest time: 3:41

the countdown...

2 hours and 45 minutes.
The house is pretty much set-up...there are a few "last minute" things to do still, but I think we're pretty good for time.
I'm in process of cleaning up the "set-up" stuff (loading dirty dishes, trashing cardboard boxes, etc.).

I'm pretty stoked on the party right now. I think HP is #1 right now...LOST may be a close #2...who knows?

More later.

Dumb and Final

Today, Elizabeth and I went to Smart and Final to pick up a few things for this weekend's services.

The shopping list: 4 giant cans of Chocolate Pudding, Pie Tins.

So I went up to the accounting offices to check out the Smart and Final card. I gave them the account number that the purchase would be taken out of...and then headed to Smart and Final.

We found the pudding and pie tins and then got in to the checkout line...Here's where the "DUMB" kicks in.

Christopher (no names were changed) finishes ringing up our 5 items and hits TOTAL. Unsure as to whether the Smart and Final card is a membership card or a "place it on my tab" account card, I look at Christopher--gesture toward him with the card--and say, "I don't know what to do."

Christopher grabs (not takes--grabs) the card from me and scans it quickly. I think to myself "Great. Done."

We grab our bags and begin to walk away.

Christopher, already slightly frustrated, says "Credit or Debit?" I didn't know...I thought the Smart and Final card took care of that. So I say, "Oh, ummm...credit."

I slide my credit card through and as he hands me my receipt I say, "Sorry I acted like I've never been to a store before." and we left.

Elizabeth mocked my stupidity all the way back to the church. ("What is this rectangular piece of plastic? Should I give it to you, or slide it myself?" "Wow! There are so many things in here...do I give you money for them?")

I get it...Maybe next weekend's game will be called "How to check-out at Smart and Final"...I, of course, will not be able to write this game myself.

Guilty Pleasures #6

I love to listen to other people's conversations.

Not in the eaves-drop/gossip way...more in the "how can they think this is interesting" way.

If I am in a public place, chances are I have stopped listening to the people I am actually with, and am now listening to anyone who passes by. Much like Clark Kent's super hearing, I can focus my attention on anyone else's phone call, raging rant, or pointless banter.

Typically I walk away thinking, "What do I talk about that other people think is boring?"

This week: my birthday party. It's all I can think about, and it's all anyone can do to avoid being caught in the line of fire.
I'm aware that it's overkill, but I can't stop myself.

Even I'M glad that the party is Friday so I can shut up about it.

But, it is going to be pretty great.

According to my Harry Potter Countdown Widget, Book 7 will be released in 268 days, 30 minutes and 50 seconds.

Now 34 seconds.

Tuesday's Heartache

Today I am aching to be in London.

When I woke up this morning, my first thought was I wish I were in London.

Getting dressed, doing my hair...I thought about being in London.

I typed LONDON in to Google Images to change my desktop background and I could feel my insides tense a little at the pictures...wanting to be walking in that city, not looking at a photo of it from across the world.

Don't get me wrong; I love my job. I love where I'm at right now and what God's doing...I just wish I could pick it all up and move it to London. My same everything, just in a different city...and with my friends here and my friends there. One big happy Allison universe.

So, just FYI, that's what's on my heart today.

Harry Potter Theme Park

Can this be true?
How exciting is this!?

Harry Potter Theme Park

I can't wait!

I shot the Mish

In her butt.

Mish has a medicine that she takes every night via syringe in her butt cheek. Tonight, since Matt McGill was at small group, I got the honor of administering the shot.

It was a successful injection. Anyone else need me to put something in their butt? (ewww...that sounds pretty sick)
